To meet the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness at the time of hospital discharge, TGI began the Medical Respite Program. Often people experiencing homelessness have substantial health care needs. Providing these individuals with a safe place to recover and recuperate after a hospital stay can be challenging for hospital discharge planners.
To address this challenge, TGI’s Medical Respite Program offers short-term, post-acute care for medically fragile guests to connect them with primary care, ensure follow-up appointments are kept, and medication is managed properly. Short-term respite care offers an opportunity to rest and heal in a safe environment while accessing medical care and supportive services which include case management, resource navigation, and mental health services. Additionally, these services aim to reduce readmission and overuse of emergency room services. During their stay, guests work with team members to identify housing and shelter options, so they do not return to the streets after their stay with us.
The Gathering Inn offers four emergency shelters. These programs invite individuals to participate as guests in this life changing resource. Guests are not only offered meals and a safe place to sleep, but they also gain resources that equip them to move from homelessness to sustainable housing. These resources include individualized case management, resource navigation, mental health clinicians, life skills classes, addiction recovery classes, and a clothing closet.
The Mobile Temporary Shelter (MTS) serves guests 18 years of age and older and utilizes a low-barrier, safe camping model to meet the most vulnerable in the community and address barriers to housing. This program focuses more heavily on providing the necessary behavioral health services to assist guests in stabilizing and moving to the next appropriate stage in their journey while in a safe and supportive environment with comprehensive services.
The Mid Placer Emergency Shelter located in Auburn welcomes guests, 18 years of age and older, to a safe and secure campus where structure and trust-based relationships encourage growth and new beginnings. This program is made possible by dedicated community Serve Partners who prepare meals in our mobile kitchen and demonstrate kindness to our guests daily. With their support, along with The Gathering Inn’s mission-driven team and comprehensive programs, lives are empowered to achieve sustainable housing.
The South Placer Emergency Shelter is a nomadic shelter located in Roseville. This shelter welcomes individuals as well as families with children. Partnerships with churches throughout Placer County make this uniquely special program possible by treating guests to a meal and a safe place to sleep. This is all provided in an atmosphere of encouragement, connection, and security. During the day, guests are provided with resources that meet their basic needs, encourage growth, and foster accountability.
Our largest Emergency Shelter program, serving 163 guests, serves those 18 years of age and older in a congregate environment with comprehensive services and support. The low barrier model of this program ensures that guests can easily access services and begin to transform their circumstances. As with our other programs, once stabilized, guests work with their Case Manager, on-site specialists, as well as existing outside community supports to establish a case plan and pursue their goals on their journey to sustainable housing.
The Elk Grove program is dedicated to assisting adults aged 18 and older who are experiencing homelessness within the community. In collaboration with City Navigators, guests receive a warm handoff upon referral, ensuring a smooth transition into our program. Most guests arrive directly from the streets, and our approach is intentionally designed to be low-barrier to facilitate access. Our Elk Grove team collaborates with a wide network of nonprofit organizations, local businesses, and faith-based groups. Together, we provide comprehensive on-site services and support guests in achieving sustainable living situations once they transition into permanent housing.
The Gathering Inn’s Permanent Supportive Housing Program provides long-term supportive housing to those who are most vulnerable. The program consists of 7 homes located throughout Placer County. Residents are paired with case managers who help navigate community resources and encourage individualized growth. Self-dependence is cultivated through life skills education and accountability within a community setting.
On Saturdays, volunteer medical providers open the clinic at our South Placer campus to offer compassionate care to guests and community members. Services may include blood pressure checks, wound care, referrals to specialty providers, and limited prescriptions for select medications. While prescriptions may be provided, medications are not dispensed onsite. This program is temporarily paused due to fire-related damage, with plans to reopen in fall 2025.
At TGI, healing goes beyond shelter. Through our partnership with Whole Wellness Therapy, guests have access to trauma-informed care—including individual and group therapy, mindfulness-based programs, and art therapy. Licensed clinicians offer support to our guests while also partnering with our case managers to ensure holistic, wraparound care. Because every guest deserves the chance to heal—body, mind, and spirit.
Guests are matched with case managers who seek to empower guests to overcome barriers to housing. Once guests’ needs are identified, and individualized action plans are created, TGI’s case managers offer resource navigation and help guide guests to achieve vocational opportunities, stability and a fresh start.
TGI’s Housing Coordinator assists guests with identifying and securing permanent housing through relationships with landlords, housing authorities, and case managers. Guests also have the opportunity to complete a “Ready to Rent” program which provides them with information on tenant/landlord rights, how to be a good neighbor, and financial responsibility.

Guests at TGI participate in life skills training that promotes personal growth and self-sufficiency. Topics include communication, relationship building, organization, and time management—practical tools that empower guests to navigate daily life with confidence and purpose.
When a guest enters one of TGI's programs, we begin by addressing their most urgent needs. Each guest receives essential items such as food, clothing, shoes, hygiene products, and other daily necessities—providing a foundation of dignity, comfort, and care as they begin their journey toward stability.
